This Georgian Revival chest of drawers in the English Country House style originates from England and dates from around the 1930 period. The piece is constructed from walnut and burr walnut with a warm brown timber colour, complemented by polished surfaces. It displays a serpentine shaped front, five drawers arranged vertically, bracket feet, and original brass swing handles with decorative backplates. The top surface and drawer faces show prominent burr walnut veneer grain patterns, while the edges incorporate subtle mouldings. Measuring 89 cm high, 63 cm wide, and 15 cm deep, this compact cabinet functions effectively for storage in a bedroom, hallway, or living room setting today.

A serpentine chest of drawers features a distinct wave-like front profile that swells in the centre and recedes at the edges. Burr walnut refers to the highly figured veneer cut from walnut tree growths, offering complex grain patterns widely favoured in 18th-century and revival English cabinet making.

Pieces of this type typically feature a solid timber frame, such as oak or pine, covered in sliced burr walnut veneers. Drawer linings are frequently constructed from oak or softwoods with dovetail joinery, accompanied by cast brass backplates and swing handles.

Authentic period features include hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, matching book-matched veneers across drawer fronts, and natural timber shrinkage or oxidisation. The presence of original brass backplates and shaped bracket feet also indicates traditional craftsmanship.

Position the piece against a neutral backdrop to highlight the natural timber figure, or integrate it alongside contemporary artwork and minimalist lighting to balance historic character with modern design elements.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent the natural veneer from drying or bleaching.
