Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Neoclassical movement emerged in the mid-18th century as a reaction against the excess of Rococo and Baroque. It drew direct inspiration from the classical art and architecture of ancient Greece and Rome, emphasising symmetry, proportion, and restrained ornamentation such as acanthus leaves, columns, and urn motifs.

Antique lamps of this type are typically constructed from cast brass, bronze, or iron, often combined with painted sheet metal known as tole. Toleware involves a specialized process of lacquering and hand-painting tin-plated steel, resulting in a durable and decorative finish characteristic of the period.

Authentication involves examining construction methods, such as heavy cast metal components, threaded brass fixings rather than modern welds, and hand-applied patination. Original wiring should always be inspected for period compliance, and tole shades should show signs of age-appropriate craquelure and hand-painted details.

This type of lamp serves as a sophisticated statement piece that bridges traditional and contemporary spaces. Position it in an empty corner or beside a neutral-upholstered sofa to introduce vertical lines, metallic warmth, and historical texture without overwhelming the room.

Dust metal components regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and avoid using chemical polishes that can strip the original patina. Painted tole surfaces should be handled gently and kept away from direct sunlight to prevent fading of the pigments.
