The quality is outstanding, this is beautifully constructed and has a gorgeous black leather top. The corners are canted and reeded, this stands on cabriole legs with shell carving at the knees terminating in lovely claw and ball feet. The figured walnut grain patterns are lovely, the drawers and top edges have double herringbone borders. There are good quality brass handles and fine, hand cut dovetailed joints on the drawers.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Walnut was predominantly used in high-end British furniture making during the late 17th century and experienced a significant revival during the Victorian and Edwardian periods, prized for its rich grain patterns and durability.

Authentic period desks typically feature solid timber frames with figured walnut veneer surfaces, hand-tooled leather writing inserts, dovetailed drawer construction, and brass hardware fittings.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the timber shrinkage, hand-cut dovetailing in the drawers, the nature of the veneer application, natural beeswax patination, and the ageing of the brass handles and locks.

Pairing the rich brown tones of walnut with minimalist modern seating and contemporary lighting creates a balanced focal point that bridges traditional craftsmanship with modern utility.

Maintain the finish by applying natural beeswax sparingly, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent veneer fading, and cleaning the leather insert with a dry or barely damp cloth without harsh chemicals.
