Antique Victorian Walnut Davenport Desk

Description

An antique mahogany Davenport, of compact and practical form. Constructed in walnut, the Davenport features a hinged writing slope with a pale blue leather writing surface, opening to reveal a fitted interior with four compartments. The upper section incorporates a separate hinged compartment for pens and ink bottles. The Davenport has four working drawers to one side, with four matching dummy drawers to the opposing side, all fitted with turned wooden knobs. The case is raised on a pair of shaped supports with splayed feet and features fine inlaid detail to the writing surface.

CONDITION REPORT:

In fair antique condition, commensurate with age and use. There are various marks, scratches and areas of wear throughout, consistent with previous use. The pale blue leather writing surface has signs of age and use, including surface marks and wear. The fitted interior remains present, including the four compartments and hinged pen and ink compartment. The four drawers open and close correctly, with the opposing four drawers being dummy drawers as originally constructed. The mahogany retains good colour and figuring, with some minor wear to the inlaid decoration. Overall, a fair example of its kind with pleasing proportions and useful fitted interior.
