Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These French Rococo style antique wall sconces date from the early 20th century, specifically 1910, and take the form of a matching pair made from gilded bronze in a polished gold colour. Each sconce features three stepped, leaf-clad scrolling arms issuing from an opposing elongated leaf backplate, complemented by pierced leaf bobeche drip pans and leaf bulbous candle sconces fitted with white cylindrical sleeves and flame bulbs. The design displays extensive asymmetrical foliage and acanthus leaf scrollwork throughout the metalwork. Fully rewired and PAT tested, the pair measures 56 cm high, 33 cm wide, and 18 cm deep. Today, these wall lights suit a narrow wall space in a home, mounted in a hallway, dining room, or drawing room to provide layered ambient lighting. They complement traditional period interiors or French chateau inspired rooms, positioned on either side of a fireplace, mirror, or doorway. Fixing involves the supplied aged brass screws secured directly into a suitable wall structure. Regular maintenance requires only gentle dusting of the intricate gilded bronze surfaces with a soft cloth to preserve the finish.

FAQs

French Rococo wall sconces, traditionally associated with the 18th-century Louis XV period, feature asymmetrical scrollwork, acanthus foliage motifs, and fluid curves designed to support candle arms against wall surfaces.

These fixtures were typically cast in bronze or brass using the lost-wax technique, then finished with gold gilding or lacquered bronze to achieve a durable surface finish.

Authentic period examples exhibit heavy cast bronze construction, hand-chased surface details, hand-cut thread work, and natural oxidisation or surface wear on non-visible reverse plates.

Sconces are commonly arranged in pairs flanking a mirror, chimneypiece, or large artwork to provide vertical symmetry, layered ambient lighting, and architectural accenting.

Gilded surfaces should be dusted with a soft, clean dry brush or microfibre cloth. Chemical polishes, solvents, and abrasive cleaners must be avoided as they can strip original gilding and protective patinas.
