FAQs

Iron and brass beds gained popularity in France during the 19th century as industrial manufacturing techniques allowed for the mass production of durable, hygienic metal furniture frames.

These beds typically combine tubular or solid iron frameworks with cast iron components and decorative brass finials, often finished with a protective burnished coating.

Authentic period pieces often feature hand-cast joints, heavier gauge metals, characteristic surface oxidisation, and sizing that conforms to historical French dimensions rather than modern standard mattresses.

Pairing the industrial weight of a dark metal frame with crisp, neutral linens creates a balanced focal point that bridges traditional and modern aesthetic sensibilities.

Maintain the finish by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and occasionally applying a microcrystalline wax to protect the metal from moisture and corrosion.
