Danish daisy jewellery gained widespread popularity in the 1940s, notably when Christian X of Denmark received a daisy pin to commemorate the birth of Princess Margrethe in 1940. Following this royal association, several Danish silversmiths produced various iterations of the design throughout the mid-century period.

These pieces typically utilise sterling silver as a base, often enhanced with a gold wash known as silver gilt or vermeil. Vitreous enamel is then applied by hand to the petal sections in a kiln-firing process to achieve durable, glossy colour.

Authentic pieces generally feature makers marks or silversmith hallmarks stamped on the reverse, alongside silver purity stamps such as 830S or 925S. The quality of the hand-applied enamel and the precision of the metalwork also serve as indicators of period manufacture.

These versatile accessories can be pinned to coat lapels, structured knitwear, scarves, or hats to introduce a subtle botanical element. Pairing them with contemporary minimalist attire allows the historical craftsmanship and colour to stand out effectively.

Enamel is sensitive to harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners, and abrasives, so it should only be cleaned using a soft, damp cloth and mild soap. Silver gilt surfaces require gentle polishing with a non-abrasive cloth to avoid wearing away the thin layer of gold wash.
