This 18th century Georgian tallboy is an English Country House chest of drawers made from dark brown mahogany with oak linings and original brass handles. The construction comprises two stacked sections topped by a dentil cornice moulding and raised on bracket feet, housing a configuration of three top drawers above graduated drawers including a drop flap secretaire section with a desk space, drawers, and pigeon holes. Measuring 190 cm high, 118 cm wide, and 59 cm deep, the piece comes in two movable parts designed for ease of transport. In a home today, this chest provides substantial storage capacity while serving as both a bedroom tallboy and a practical writing desk. The solid timber construction and smooth runner mechanics ensure daily functionality, while the classic silhouette and traditional hardware suit period interiors and country house schemes alike.

A Georgian secretaire tallboy, also referred to as a chest on chest, is an 18th-century piece of furniture comprising two stacked drawer units, incorporating a pull-out or drop-down writing desk concealed within one of the upper drawer fronts.

These pieces were crafted predominantly from solid and veneered mahogany, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine secondary woods for drawer linings, and cast brass swan-neck or batwing handles.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-sawn timber marks, slightly irregular hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass escutcheons, and natural timber shrinkage, particularly along the side panels and drawer bottoms.

A tallboy functions as an architectural anchor in a bedroom, study, or hallway, contrasting effectively with contemporary artwork, neutral paint palettes, and refined modern lighting.

Position the cabinet away from direct heat sources and sunlight to avoid warping or timber bleaching, and clean regularly with a soft cloth while applying a beeswax polish once or twice per year.
