FAQs

The tallboy, or chest on chest, emerged in the late 17th century during the Baroque period, designed to maximise vertical storage space while minimising the floor footprint.

These pieces typically feature solid oak or pine carcases veneered with highly figured burr walnut, joined using hand-cut dovetail joints and fitted with solid brass hardware.

Authenticity is determined by examining drawer linings for hand-planed marks, inspecting the uniformity of hand-cut dovetails, and checking for period-appropriate timber shrinkage and oxidisation.

A tallboy serves as a sculptural statement piece in a contemporary bedroom or hallway, offering rich organic textures that balance minimalist or neutral surroundings.

Maintain walnut furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and treat it periodically with microcrystalline wax to nourish the timber without damaging the historic finish.
