Copper umbrella and stick stands gained popularity in British hallways during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. They provided a practical yet decorative solution for storing wet walking sticks and umbrellas in entrance halls.

These items were typically constructed from sheet copper or brass, often featuring hand-beaten or repousse embossed designs. Riveted seams and cast brass handles or claw feet were commonly incorporated for durability and aesthetic appeal.

Authentic pieces usually display natural patination, age-related oxidation marks, and traditional construction methods such as dovetailing, soldering, or hand-riveting rather than modern machine welding.

Positioning a metallic accent piece in an entranceway adds warmth and texture. It can function traditionally as a holder for walking canes or repurposed as a tall planter for dried botanicals.

Maintain copper items by dusting with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners that strip the aged patina, and apply a microcrystalline wax periodically to protect the surface from moisture.
