Bodkins and ribbon threaders date back centuries as essential sewing and dressmaking implements used to thread cords, ribbons, and elastics through hems and corsetry.

These items were typically crafted from solid sterling silver, often featuring hand-stamped hallmarks, makers marks, and engraved decorative details.

Authenticity is determined by examining makers marks, silver hallmarks indicating assay office and date letter, and the distinct weight and patination of genuine aged silver.

Smaller antique sewing implements can be displayed inside glass tabletop cabinets, framed in shadow boxes, or styled on a desk in a study.

Preservation involves storing pieces in tarnish-resistant cloth and using gentle, non-abrasive silver cleaning cloths only when necessary to protect the historical patina and hallmarks.
