Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The George III style, spanning the mid-to-late 18th century, is characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and a transition from heavy mahogany to more delicate neoclassical designs influenced by cabinetmakers like Chippendale and Sheraton.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over secondary softwoods like pine or oak, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers and traditional brass hardware.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage patterns, period-appropriate brasses or filled ghost holes, and construction methods consistent with late 18th-century joinery.

A period bureau works effectively as a functional focal point in a modern study or living room, contrasted against neutral walls and minimalist seating to highlight its rich wood tones and historic craftsmanship.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting, and nourish the surface periodically with traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
