Opal rings gained immense popularity during the late Victorian period, largely driven by Queen Victorias fondness for the gemstone and its widespread use in fine jewellery.

These pieces are typically crafted from yellow gold, often featuring claw or illusion settings, with hand-carved detailing and interspersed small accent diamonds.

Authentic pieces generally display period-appropriate hallmarking, handcrafted metalwork with subtle irregularities, and natural opal play-of-colour characteristic of mined stones from that era.

An antique ring can be worn alone as a statement piece or stacked with contemporary minimal bands to create a balanced, mixed-era jewellery aesthetic.

Opals are softer and contain water, so they should be kept away from harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners, extreme temperature changes, and prolonged direct sunlight.
