Charles Horner established his manufacturing business in Halifax, Yorkshire, during the late 19th century, gaining renown for innovative sterling silver hatpins, brooches, and enamel work associated with the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau movements.

These items typically utilise sterling silver frames combined with translucent plique-a-jour or opaque enamel work, often featuring naturalistic motifs hand-crafted by skilled artisans.

Authenticity is verified by the distinctive CH makers mark stamped into the silver, often accompanied by assay office marks, date letters, and the lion passant for sterling silver.

Vintage brooches add a sophisticated focal point when pinned to modern lapels, scarves, or hats, blending historic craftsmanship with contemporary attire.

Preserve these items by storing them in soft pouches away from direct sunlight, avoiding liquid silver dips to protect the delicate enamel, and cleaning gently with a dry microfibre cloth.
