Description

Gents silver Longines wrist watch, 1929.

The watch has a calibre 13.34 15-jewel hand-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the Longines name, together with the Baume & Co mark, importers of Longines watches to the UK and the Commonwealth. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 34.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for London (import mark), 1929, together with the sponsor’s mark for Arthur Baume of Baume & Co. The case is in good condition, just a slight indentation to the hinged back but nothing serious at all.

The lens has a couple of minor marks, again nothing too serious.

The dial has a couple of hairlines although they are fairly faint.

A later leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Date of Manufacture

The Vintage Wrist Watch Company has dated this Vintage Silver Wristwatch to the 1920s.

Dealers Notes

ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (because of GPSR legislation, we no longer post items less than 100 years old to Europe, including Northern Ireland).

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

Timepieces from the 1920s often feature transitional designs bridging pocket watches and modern wristwatches, characterised by enamel dials, Roman numerals, and fixed wire lugs.

Watch cases from this era were commonly crafted from sterling silver, nickel, or gold, paired with porcelain enamel dials and leather straps.

Authenticity is typically determined by examining the hallmark on the silver case, the movement serial number, and the construction style such as fixed wire lugs and hand-wound mechanical movements.

A vintage silver wristwatch pairs well with tailored formal attire or minimalist smart-casual outfits, adding historical character and understated elegance to the wrist.

Keep the watch away from moisture and extreme magnetic fields, avoid over-winding, and service the mechanical movement professionally every few years to ensure longevity.
