Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Burr walnut became highly prized in English furniture making during the late 17th and 18th centuries, particularly associated with the William and Mary and Queen Anne periods, due to its highly figured, swirling grain patterns harvested from tree growths.

These pieces typically feature fine burr walnut veneers applied over secondary woods such as pine or oak, constructed with hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers and traditional mortise and tenon framing.

Authenticity is identified by examining the hand-cut dovetailing, the presence of old beeswax finishes, natural shrinkage cracks in the timber, hand-carved or cast brass hardware, and the irregularities inherent in genuine historical veneers.

An antique walnut chest serves as a strong focal point in a modern room, pairing well with minimalist surroundings, neutral walls, and contemporary lighting to highlight the rich texture and warm tones of the figured wood.

Preserve antique walnut by keeping it out of direct sunlight, maintaining stable indoor humidity levels to prevent veneer cracking, and occasionally applying traditional microcrystalline wax rather than modern silicone polishes.
