Walnut became the timber of choice for English cabinetmakers during the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, bridging the era between oak and mahogany dominance. Pieces from the William and Mary and Queen Anne periods featured decorative veneers, herringbone inlays, and refined proportions.
