Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

The Rococo style emerged in France during the early 18th century, characterised by asymmetrical designs, ornate scrollwork, and natural motifs such as C-scrolls and foliage, which were frequently applied to decorative fixtures like wall lights and chandeliers.

Traditional wall lights of this type are typically cast in bronze or brass and finished with a layer of gold leaf or gilt, often accented with hand-cut crystal prisms or pendants suspended from the arms.

Authentic period pieces usually exhibit manual chasing and finishing on the metalwork, hand-cut glass or crystal droplets with specific edge wear, and historical mounting hardware, whereas reproductions often display modern casting seams and machine-cut components.

These fixtures serve as focal points when mounted symmetrically on either side of a fireplace, mirror, or architectural feature, providing a contrast of classic ornamentation against minimalist or neutral modern wall colours.

Gilded surfaces should be dusted gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth without using chemical cleaning agents that can strip the gold leaf, while crystal drops can be carefully cleaned with a mild solution of warm water and dish soap before being thoroughly dried.
