A chamberstick is a portable candle holder featuring a shallow pan and a handle, historically designed to illuminate bedchambers and hallways before the advent of electricity. Originating in earlier centuries, regional silversmiths later adopted modernist design principles to create streamlined versions.

These pieces are typically constructed from solid sterling silver, shaped through traditional silversmithing techniques such as hammering, soldering, and polishing. They often include an integrated socket, drip pan, loop handle, and an attached conical snuffer.

Authentic pieces bear official hallmarks stamped into the metal, indicating the assay office, metal purity such as sterling standard, makers marks, and a date letter. Weight, gauge of the silver, and construction quality also help verify authenticity.

This piece can be displayed on a mantelpiece, sideboard top, or bedside table to add a reflective metallic accent. Its clean lines complement minimalist, contemporary, and eclectic interior schemes.

Silver should be cleaned periodically using a specialised non-abrasive silver polish to remove tarnish without scratching the surface. Store the item in a dry, low-humidity environment and handle it with soft cloths or cotton gloves to prevent oil transfer from skin.
