Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Georgian period spans the reigns of the first four Georges from 1714 to 1830, characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and the transition from walnut to mahogany as the primary timber.

Authentic pieces typically feature solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over secondary woods like pine or oak, constructed using hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer boxes and traditional mortise and tenon frames.

Authenticity is identified by inspecting the drawer construction for hand-cut dovetails, checking for uneven timber shrinkage, examining the backboards for age-appropriate tool marks, and verifying the presence of original brass hardware or period-appropriate replacements.

A period chest of drawers acts as a sophisticated focal point in contemporary spaces when paired with minimalist art, modern lighting, or clean-lined upholstery to create a balanced eclectic aesthetic.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent wood splitting, and nourish the timber periodically using traditional beeswax rather than modern silicone polishes.
