This Georgian chest of drawers is a George III piece made from mahogany, pine and brass with a warm brown colour. The design includes a brushing slide fitted with axe head handles above three graduated long drawers, all furnished with original brass swan-neck handles and key escutcheons, plus a low rear upstand along the top surface. The case stands on oversized, full-length bracket feet with historic repairs visible on the woodwork. It measures 97 cm high by 107 cm wide and 55 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this chest serves as practical bedroom storage for folded garments and linens, or operates as a functional storage cabinet in a hallway, dressing room or living space. The traditional timber grain and classic hardware suit period interiors as well as modern rooms seeking a touch of traditional character.

Produced during the reign of King George III between 1760 and 1820, these chests feature classical proportions, solid or veneered mahogany construction, bracket feet, and brass hardware such as swan-neck handles.

Primary timbers were overwhelmingly West Indian mahogany, chosen for its dense grain and colour, while secondary timbers such as oak and pine were utilised for drawer linings and back panels.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, original secondary timber linings, cast brass handles with natural surface patination, and hand-planed rear boards.

Position the piece against a contemporary or neutral wall, layering the top surface with modern ceramics, framed artwork, or simple lighting to complement the dark wood tones.

Maintain the finish by positioning the timber away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent cracking, dusting with a soft cloth, and applying beeswax occasionally to preserve the surface.
