Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 19th-century Georgian bachelors chest of drawers is fashioned from warm brown mahogany with a polished timber finish. The piece comprises a pull-out brushing slide beneath the top, positioned above four graduated drawers fitted with batwing brass handles and diamond-shaped keyhole escutcheons. The structure stands on bracket feet and exhibits crisp linear mouldings framing each drawer front. Practical dimensions are 91 cm wide, 54.5 cm deep, and 80 cm high. In a modern home, this storage item suits a bedroom, a living room, or a study as a traditional chest of drawers with surface display space. The compact proportions allow placement against walls in hallways or landings while providing enclosed storage for clothing, linens, or daily accessories. The classic English country house design integrates easily with period and transitional interiors.

FAQs

A Georgian bachelors chest is a compact chest of drawers originating in the 18th century, typically featuring a pull-out brushing slide or folding top designed for dressing and brushing clothes.

Georgian chests were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcass wood, fitted with hand-cast brass handles, keyhole escutcheons, and hand-dovetailed drawer joints.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-sawn drawer bottoms, uneven dovetail joints, original brass backplate marks or shadow lines, bracket feet, and natural surface patination accumulated over centuries.

A Georgian chest serves as versatile storage in entryways, living rooms, or bedrooms, pairing effectively with contemporary artwork, modern table lamps, or neutral minimalist colour palettes.

Maintain mahogany by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the wood away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent shrinkage or fading.
