This Georgian chest of drawers dates from the eighteenth century, specifically around 1740, and is made from mahogany with a warm brown timber colour and an oak interior lining. The form incorporates a pull-out brushing slide at the top with two small round wooden knobs, situated above three graduated long drawers fitted with decorative pierced brass handle plates and central keyhole escutcheons. The whole piece is raised on bracket feet at the base, displaying clean rectangular lines and flat-fronted proportions across the dark wood surfaces. Dimensions stand at 93 cm in height, 102 cm in width, and 54 cm in depth. In a contemporary home, this item provides practical bedroom storage or functions as an elegant surface piece in a hallway or study. The timeless proportions and traditional dark timber finish suit both period properties and classic interior settings, offering surface display space as well as concealed storage within the drawers and sliding shelf.

Originating in the 18th century, these furniture pieces feature a pull-out wooden shelf situated directly beneath the top moulding, designed for brushing or folding clothing garments.

Furniture from the 1740s was predominantly crafted from solid West Indian or Cuban mahogany, featuring hand-cut dovetail drawer joints and cast brass backplate handles.

Authentic Georgian chests display hand-planed drawer linings, heavy solid mahogany construction, original brass keyhole escutcheons, and historic wear consistent with age around the bracket feet.

Position the chest as a focal storage piece in a hallway or bedroom, pairing its dark timber tones with modern lamps, textured wall coverings, or contemporary art.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish annually to protect the original finish and keep the timber hydrated.
