This Georgian chest of drawers from circa 1770 uses solid mahogany with oak drawer linings, rendered in a warm brown timber colour with a polished finish. The rectangular top sits above two small upper drawers over three long graduated drawers below, fitted with brass swan-neck swing handles on shaped backplates, keyhole escutcheons, and stands raised on bracket feet. Practical for placement in a bedroom or hallway, this piece measures 86 cm wide by 46 cm deep and 78 cm high. The drawers run freely within the frame, offering ample storage space while maintaining a compact footprint suitable for traditional and classic interior schemes.

Georgian chests of drawers, produced between 1714 and 1830, are characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and the widespread use of imported mahogany timber. They frequently feature a two-over-three drawer configuration resting on bracket feet with cast brass swan-neck handles.

Primary timber in the late 18th century was predominantly dense mahogany, valued for its deep colour and durability. Internal drawer linings were typically constructed from solid oak or pine, joined with hand-cut dovetails and fitted with brass keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic 18th-century pieces display hand-sawn drawer linings, uneven dovetail joints, and natural timber shrinkage across the back panels. Original brass hardware leaves subtle impression marks on the wood finish, and drawer runners exhibit noticeable friction wear from centuries of use.

A Georgian mahogany chest introduces natural wood tones and historic texture to modern spaces. Position the piece in an entryway, hallway, or bedroom, styling the top surface with modern table lamps, ceramic vessels, or a framed mirror.

Maintain mahogany furniture by dusting regularly with a clean microfibre cloth and applying beeswax polish once or twice a year along the direction of the grain. Position the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage or surface colour fading.
