Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

FAQs

Originating primarily in France during the 18th and 19th centuries, marble-topped commodes were developed as functional storage furniture that combined fine cabinet-making with durable, heat-resistant stone surfaces for practical daily use in elite residences.

Traditional construction typically involves a solid timber carcass, frequently veneered with figured woods such as walnut or mahogany, paired with a heavy slab of polished natural marble fixed to the upper surface.

Authentication relies on examining dovetail joinery, hand-forged or period-appropriate hardware, timber shrinkage patterns, and the tooling marks on the underside of the marble slab to confirm age and hand-craftsmanship.

Pairing the rich wood grain and cool stone top with minimalist contemporary decor, clean-lined lighting, or abstract art creates a balanced contrast that highlights the historic craftsmanship within a contemporary space.

Maintain walnut surfaces with appropriate wax polishes while avoiding silicone sprays, and protect marble from acidic liquids by using coasters and cleaning exclusively with pH-neutral solutions.
