FAQs

Brass beds gained immense popularity during the Victorian and Edwardian eras due to advancements in metallurgical manufacturing, which allowed for ornate casting and polished finishes that symbolised domestic hygiene and modern comfort.

Authentic period bed frames typically feature solid brass tubing or heavy brass plating over iron cores, joined by metal side rails, casting joints, and ceramic or iron castors.

Authenticity is identified by heavy weight construction, manufacturer stamps or plates, hand-finished joints, natural patination of the brass, and period-appropriate hardware rather than modern welded joints.

Pairing a polished or patinated brass bed frame with minimalist neutral linens, textured throws, and modern bedside lighting creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics.

Preservation involves dusting regularly with a soft cloth and avoiding harsh chemical metal polishes that strip the historic oxidisation and patina, maintaining the protective lacquered or aged surface.
