Georgian mourning jewellery comprises pieces created between 1714 and 1830 to commemorate deceased loved ones, frequently incorporating symbolic motifs like hair work, pearls, and dark enamelling to reflect the periods societal customs surrounding mortality and remembrance.

These rings were typically handcrafted in low-carat yellow gold, featuring closed-back foil settings for gemstones, natural seed pearls arranged in floral clusters, and intricate hand-engraved inscriptions along the inner shank.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut gemstones, irregular hand-forged metalwork, closed-back settings without modern solder marks, and authentic period script engraving on the interior band rather than modern machine stamping.

A historic mourning ring makes a sophisticated statement when worn alone as a focal point or stacked delicately with minimalist contemporary gold bands to create a juxtaposition of eras.

Pearls and historic gemstones are delicate and sensitive to harsh chemicals, cosmetics, and ultrasonic cleaners; therefore, they should be cleaned gently with a soft dry cloth and stored separately in a padded jewellery box.
