This antique Yomut Turkmen spindle bag, known as an igsalyk, dates from circa 1880 and originates from nomadic tribal traditions. It is hand-knotted from wool and dyed yarn, showcasing a terracotta, yellow, and dark brown colour palette with a plain weave back. The vertical rectangular face displays a central chevron geometric pattern and a tree design, bordered by bands of geometric motifs and edged with a braided hanging loop at the top and multi-coloured tassels along the sides and bottom. The bag measures 48 cm high, 22 cm wide, and 1 cm deep, excluding the tassels. It is designed to hang on a wall, making it suitable for display in a narrow wall space or hallway in a contemporary home.

An igsalyk is a narrow, hand-woven tribal bag traditionally crafted by Turkmen nomadic women, specifically designed to store drop spindles used in spinning wool thread.

They are typically hand-knotted using hand-spun wool yarn on a wool warp and weft, featuring a thick pile front panel, plain weave back, and intricate braided wool cords with decorative tassels.

Authentic 19th-century pieces feature natural dyes, deep terracotta reds and dark brown tones, strict geometric tribal motifs like serrated chevron patterns, and fine hand-spun wool weaving.

Mount the textile on a narrow wall space, integrate it into a curated gallery wall, or display it on a stand inside a cabinet to add textured bohemian character.

Keep the textile away from direct sunlight and damp conditions, clean gently with low-suction vacuuming through a mesh screen, and avoid hanging by raw threads without proper support.
