Description

This is a really large solid copper log bin with great storage capacity for logs dating from the early 20th century.

The polished copper vessel has a lovely colour and has solid brass mounts with three leather carrying straps to the body and is raised on three painted and gilded hairy paw design legs that can be adjusted up or down for height. This would be a great showpiece for a larger fireplace or country house with log burner. The log bin has originally been a fine kettle drum by Parsons of Birmingham and has the manufacturers stamp to the side.

This is a really useful and imposing storage solution for logs measuring in 63 cms diameter and is shown at 68 cms high but can be raised another 12 cms on the adjustable legs.

UK delivery can be arranged with our trusted courier and costs £55 plus vat to most destinations.

Date of Manufacture

Rams Head Antiques has dated this Antique Copper Log Bin to the 1900s.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Copper log bins and coal buckets were staple functional items in country houses and period properties, utilised for transporting and storing fuel near the hearth.

These pieces are typically constructed from heavy-gauge sheet copper, often featuring hand-beaten or hammered surfaces, brass or iron fittings, and riveted seams.

Authentic pieces display period-appropriate manufacturing methods such as hand-riveting, dovetailing, or early machine rolling, alongside natural patina, wear, and historical oxidisation.

Position the piece beside a fireplace to store firewood, or repurpose it as a freestanding planter for large indoor foliage to introduce warmth and metallic texture.

Maintain the metal by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and avoiding harsh chemical polishes that strip the historical patina, preserving the natural finish.
