This late Victorian trinket dish takes a heart shape, crafted from sterling silver with a reflective silver finish. The piece displays a pierced scroll and floral border, an inner wavy rim, and a central repoussé relief panel depicting five cherub heads among clouds. The photograph shows detailed wings on the cherubs, complex cutouts within the ornate scrollwork along the scalloped outer edge, and subtle tonal highlights reflecting off the polished convex surfaces of the metal. Hallmarks appear on the reverse side. The item measures 1 cm high, 8 cm wide, and 8.5 cm deep. Positioned on a bedside table, this dish serves as a practical holder for small daily accessories like rings, pins, and earrings. The compact footprint suits placement on a dressing table or mantelpiece, providing an accessible storage spot that keeps small items organised while adding a decorative Victorian accent to the room.

Heart-shaped silver dishes gained significant popularity during the late Victorian period, reflecting the eras sentimentality and romanticism. Frequently produced as vanity items or gift tokens, these pieces often incorporated revival motifs such as Renaissance cherubs and Rococo scrollwork.

Late Victorian silver dishes were typically raised from solid sterling silver sheets using hand-chasing and repousse hammering techniques to create relief designs. Detailed openwork borders were achieved through hand-piercing or precision stamping before receiving assay hallmarks.

Authentic British pieces bear a complete set of official hallmarks: the lion passant for sterling purity, an assay office symbol (such as an anchor for Birmingham), a date letter, and a makers mark. The weight, hand-finished detailing, and natural surface wear consistent with age also verify authenticity.

Small antique silver dishes function well on contemporary bedside tables or vanity tops as vessels for daily jewellery. They can also serve as decorative accents layered atop stacked books or displayed within open shelving units.

Regular dusting with a soft microfibre cloth prevents build-up, while mild tarnish can be removed using specialized silver polish applied gently along relief lines. Avoid abrasive cleaning solutions or washing in dishwashers, as these alter oxidized detailing and damage the surface finish.
