Morison and Co Burr Walnut Open Bookcase

19th century
Description

Circa 1860. An exhibition quality burr walnut open bookcase stamped ‘Morison & Co. Edinburgh’. The breakfront top in book matched fine burr walnut veneers, with a finely carved dragoon foredge with foliate carving at the various intersections. The front is flanked by two turned columns at each end and pilasters in the center. The three sections each have two adjustable shelves with polished fore edges. Beneath the bottom shelf there is a further moulding and the whole piece stands on an enclosed walnut plinth which follows the form of the bookcase, columns and pilasters.
