Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A tazza is a wide, shallow bowl mounted on a pedestal stem, historically used to serve fruit or act as an ornamental table centrepiece. Originating in antiquity, the form saw major revivals during the Renaissance and throughout the nineteenth century across Europe.

Nineteenth-century tazzas were commonly cast from bronze, brass, or spelter, frequently paired with polished marble or porphyry bases. The metal components were typically patinated or gilded and assembled using internal threaded rod fittings.

Authentic period pieces display hand-chased detailing, hand-cut threaded rods, and original dark or chemical patination. Look for natural wear patterns on contact points and construction signs consistent with late nineteenth-century bronze founding techniques.

A bronze tazza serves as a focal point on a sideboard, fireplace mantelpiece, or console table. It functions effectively as a standalone sculptural object or as a holder for decorative items to introduce textural contrast against modern surfaces.

Dust the bronze gently with a soft microfibre cloth or dry brush, avoiding liquid cleaners or abrasive polishes that strip original patination. Clean marble bases with a damp cloth and neutral pH soap, drying immediately to prevent water staining.
