Scottish pebble jewellery typically features native stones such as malachite, agates, and jaspers set in silver mounts, gaining immense popularity during the Victorian era due to Queen Victorias affinity for Balmoral and the Scottish Highlands.

These pieces generally utilise sterling or coin silver settings, hand-cut natural stones, and traditional C-clasps or pin-and-tub hinges characteristic of early 20th-century metalworking.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural concentric banding patterns with variations in hue, heavier silver weight, period-appropriate fastenings, and often natural signs of age such as gentle surface wear or patina on the metal.

In interiors, such items are often displayed inside glass dome cloches or shadow boxes as cabinet curiosities; in fashion, they can be pinned to lapels, scarves, or heavy knitwear to add a touch of historical texture.

Malachite is a relatively soft copper carbonate mineral that is sensitive to acids and harsh chemicals, so it should be cleaned gently with a soft dry cloth and stored away from moisture and harder metals to prevent scratching.
