Cloisonne is an ancient decorative technique where metallic wire, usually copper or brass, is bent to form raised compartments (cloisons) on a metal vessel base. Originating in the Near East, the craft was refined in China during the Ming Dynasty and flourished through the Qing Dynasty and early 20th century.
