A candle lustre is a type of decorative candlestick adorned with hanging glass prisms or pendants, which were popular during the 19th century to catch and refract candlelight.

Traditional lustres were typically manufactured from lead crystal, pressed or cut glass, often featuring brass connectors or hand-painted enamel and gilt details on body surfaces.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit hand-cut facets, subtle surface wear, hand-beaded wire connections for the prisms, and minor manufacturing imperfections such as small air bubbles within the glass matrix.

Placing a pair on a mantelpiece or a sideboard allows them to function as sculptural focal points, where natural light can pass through the hanging crystal prisms.

Prisms should be carefully removed and washed individually in lukewarm water with mild soap, avoiding harsh chemicals, while the main body is gently wiped with a soft, lint-free cloth.
