Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Late Victorian salad bowl originates from around 1900 and embodies traditional English country house style. The construction combines a warm brown polished oak body with silver-plated rims, scalloped base mouldings, side handles, and an engraved scroll plaque bearing the word salad. Inside sits a smooth white ceramic drop-in liner, accompanied by a matching pair of servers fitted with turned wooden handles. The piece measures 11.4 cm high, 27.9 cm wide, and 24.1 cm deep, offering practical proportions for contemporary dining use. Placed upon a dining room sideboard top or a kitchen island, it serves as both a functional tableware item for serving salads and a decorative tabletop accessory during family meals and gatherings.

FAQs

Originating in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these decorative serveware pieces combined durable English oak with electroplated nickel silver mounts and ceramic liners for functional table presentation.

These bowls feature a turned oak exterior reinforced with silver-plated rim and base bands, fitted handles, and a removable ceramic liner designed to hold food without damaging the wood.

Authentic pieces typically feature silver-plated or electroplated nickel silver stamps, engraved decorative plaques, heavy ceramic drop-in liners, and original wooden-handled serving utensils.

Position the bowl as a functional centrepiece on a dining table, kitchen island, or sideboard, combining natural wood textures with contemporary ceramic tableware for a layered setting.

Hand wash the ceramic liner separately using mild soap, polish the silver mounts with a soft cloth and specialised polish, and treat the external oak with beeswax to prevent drying.
