This George III Chippendale period tallboy dates from the eighteenth century, around 1775. Formed from dark brown mahogany with brass hardware, the tall piece stands on bracket feet and displays dentil moulding beneath the top surface. Seven graduated drawers run down the front, each fitted with brass swan-neck handles and individual keyholes. The top section incorporates a fold-down secretaire drawer containing a leather writing pad, alongside working locks and hinges. Measuring 195 cm high by 92 cm wide and 48 cm deep, the furniture functions as a practical storage chest suitable for a bedroom, dressing room, or home study. The slender profile accommodates smaller rooms while providing extensive storage capacity through multiple drawers. The mahogany timber exhibits a warm, polished grain throughout the exterior panels, contrasting against the bright brass handles.

A George III secretaire tallboy is an 18th-century piece of case furniture consisting of a double chest of drawers, where one drawer incorporates a drop-front or pull-out writing desk fitted with small drawers and pigeonholes.

These pieces were typically constructed using solid and veneered mahogany, oak or pine drawer linings, hand-cut dovetail joints, and cast brass hardware such as swan-neck handles and keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic pieces feature hand-sawn timber marks, hand-cut dovetail joinery, period-correct brass drop handles, dentil or blind-fretwork cornices, and ogee or bracket feet consistent with late 18th-century English cabinetry.

Position the tallboy against a neutral or muted backdrop to balance its visual weight, and pair it with contemporary lighting or modern artwork to create a balanced blend of traditional and modern design elements.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, ensuring the piece is positioned away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement and fading.
