English Antique Sterling Silver Crocodile Hip Spirit Flask 1905 Hunting Shooting

1900 - 1920
Description

A super quality sterling silver hip spirit flask. It is hallmarked for Birmingham 1905 with the maker’s marks being that of John Yates & Son. It has been stylishly designed having a bayonet top, detachable cup, and crocodile leather clad body. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits holes and repairs, very faint single mark to the lid. The cap retains its cork and the bayonet mechanism works like new. It measures approx. 5.75 inches (14.5cm) tall by 3.25 inches (8.7cm) wide and weighs 296 grams. A very well made usable piece.

Please note with flasks that are new or have not been used for a while you will need to leave water in it upside down for a day or so to allow the cork to re-swell.

The Silver Squirrel has dated this piece to the Edwardian era.
