We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian silver-plated folding biscuit box is a nineteenth-century serving piece in the form of a shell. It is made of silver-plated metal in a bright silver colour and comes complete with an ornate supporting frame, an upright carrying handle with a top ring, and small scroll feet. The rounded outer shell features engraved leaf patterns, geometric sections, and ribbed fluting, while the structure is held together by vertical decorative mouldings and small hardware rings at the top. The entire item measures 23 cm high, 18 cm wide, and 13 cm deep. In a contemporary interior, this biscuit box sits neatly upon a sideboard top as a decorative tableware accessory or a functional container for biscuits and dry treats during formal dining occasions or afternoon tea. Guests lift the top ring handles to access the hinged interior cavity, making it a practical conversation piece for entertaining.

Popularised in late 19th-century Britain, a folding shell biscuit box is a specialised mechanical tableware container used for holding and serving biscuits or small pastries at afternoon tea.

These items were predominantly constructed from electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) or sterling silver, featuring cast frames, spring hinges, and engraved or chased decorative exterior panels.

Authentic examples feature makers marks or electroplate stamps on the underside, functional cast metal hinges and latch mechanisms, and hand-engraved or stamped decoration consistent with 19th-century manufacturing.

Place the box on a sideboard, coffee table, or dining surface as a functional accent, or leave the shells open to display decorative objects or store small accessories.

Clean silver-plated surfaces using a soft cloth and a specialised non-abrasive silver polish, avoiding harsh chemicals that may strip the electroplated coating or damage mechanical joints.
