Attractive Square Victorian Silver Vesta Case Birmingham 1899 By John Rose

An exquisite solid silver vesta case, square in shape and very slightly concave in design. Beautifully engraved with swirling patterns to both the front and the back. The front bears a vacant cartouche in the centre. Hinged on one side the lid opens and closes perfectly. The case has clear hallmarks visible on the inside lip or the Birmingham Assay Office, with a date mark for 1899 and the Lion Passant indicating sterling silver, along with the silversmith''s maker''s mark : John Rose. Partial marks are also visible on the inside of the lid. There is a good fastening loop at the top.
 
 
 
This vesta is lovely to hold in the hand and is in great condition. (Some very light surface scratches to the surface of the cartouche mentioned for accuracy only).
