This Victorian fireplace fender is a decorative metal hearth accessory in a gold-coloured brass finish. The heavy guard piece is constructed in a long, low rectangular form with rounded ends that sweep backward at each side. Two horizontal bands of ornate pierced fretwork run along the upper and lower portions of the body, interspersed with a solid moulded central waist rail. Three small turned ball feet support the base, raising the structure slightly off the ground. The top edge finishes with a smooth moulded rim. Measuring 24 cm high, 93 cm wide, and 28 cm deep, the fender sits securely across a domestic fireplace hearth to contain embers and frame an open fire. It brings period character to a living room, study, or traditional fireplace setting in a modern home.
