Sold by: Woodbridge Antiques

This is a most attractive and unusually designed Edwardian silver vesta case.  The shape is oval.  It is beautifully and quite uniquely engraved to both the back and front, with a vacant cartouche on one corner.  The lid opens and closes perfectly and fits well.  Hallmarks are visible on the inside lip of the case, with partial marks to the inside lid, for the Birmingham Assay Office with a date mark for 1903, Lion Passant indicating fine sterling silver and the maker''s mark for the silversmith:  William J Holmes.
