A Rare Peter Waals Oak Bookcase Dated 1928

1920 - 1940
Description

A rare Peter Waals oak bookcase dated 1928 and initialled GDB commissioned for Gavin Bone ( 1907 - 1942 ) the son of the artist Sir Muirhead Bone and Professor of Anglo Saxon Poetry at Oxford University . This bookcase displays all the characteristics of Waals work including the rotating semi circular cut out disc handles which were his speciality along with exposed tenon joints to the top and sides . Gavin Bone was a contemporary and close friend of the artist Julian Trevelyan whose uncle Sir George Trevelyan worked as an apprentice to Peter Waals at the Daneway Workshops in Gloucestershire.
