Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain originates from the Japanese port of Imari and is characterised by a distinct colour palette comprising dark cobalt blue underglaze, iron red enamel overglaze, and rich gilding. British manufacturers in the 19th century adapted these oriental designs into popular formal dinner services and decorative wares.

European Imari plates from the 19th century were typically made from bone china or hard-paste porcelain, decorated using hand-applied underglaze cobalt blue followed by overglaze enamels and real gold leaf embellishment.

Authentic 19th-century pieces usually exhibit maker marks or pattern numbers painted on the underside, faint surface irregularities consistent with period production, and subtle wear to the gilding along high-contact points such as the rim.

Cabinet plates can be displayed on plate stands atop a sideboard, arranged in symmetrical wall groupings using wire hangers, or layered within traditional dresser shelves to add colour and historic detail to modern living spaces.

Antique porcelain decorated with overglaze enamels and gilding should only be hand-washed gently in lukewarm water using mild detergent. Abrasive sponges, harsh chemical cleaners, and dishwashers must be avoided to prevent stripping the gilding.
