Dating from around 1850-1860 this stunning and richly coloured Antique Sauj Bulagh carpet is in exceptional original condition.  Woven from the Kurdish region in the far North-West of Persia. They are known for combining elements of classical Persian drawings with a bold and vividly colourful village aesthetic. This early Sauj Bulagh carpet uses the classic Persian all-over ''Herati pattern'' used in the 18th century, which depicts two fish swimming around a water-lily, which can be seen more clearly on this large scale in the main field. As they do look like fish almost....the wool is very soft and lustrous and the colours are deep with an almost black background, which is deep blue.The large scale border design is really amazing with a pattern of what is believed to be a turtle with flowers in-between.  Early yellow dyes have been used with rich red tones to create a beautiful large border.We offer the service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ in anywhere in the UK...
