S & A Marsh has dated this piece to the 1900s.
There is also a ring at the top so that it can be worn if so desired. Once opened, it reveals two spring compartments, which are still in good working order, to house Sovereigns and half Sovereigns. This design is extremely unusual and would make an interesting addition to a collection. It weighs 24 grams.
