Scottish dirk brooches are inspired by the traditional highland dagger, the dirk, and gained immense popularity during the Victorian eras Celtic Revival movement in the 19th century.

These pieces typically feature sterling silver mounts set with native Scottish stones such as agates, jaspers, cairngorms, and freshwater pearls.

Authentic pieces often exhibit hallmarks indicating British assay offices, traditional hand-engraved Celtic knotwork or basketweave detailing, and secure c-clasps or pin stems consistent with 19th-century manufacturing methods.

This piece can be fastened traditionally to a wool plaid lapel, used to secure a heavy scarf, or worn as a statement fastening on a structured blazer.

Silver components should be gently cleaned with a specialised microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can dislodge or damage set stones and organic adhesives.
