Description

A carved-shell 19th-century cameo brooch, most likely Italian. The cameo is a very attractive and quite rare design depicting the winged goddess Venus strewing flowers with Cupid on her back, although it also has echoes of the Greek winged goddess of victory holding her torch aloft. The cameo is bezel set into a nine-carat gold mount with rope twist detail.

The brooch is in very good antique condition; the cameo has vertical hairline cracking right of centre but is solid and securely fixed.

Size: Approximately 2.8 x 3.3cm.

Weight: 4.7g.
