Description

A superb quality 19th Century French mahogany bookcase in the empire style, the shaped cornice above three moulded arched doors with wire grills opening to reveal four adjustable shelves in each section, each door front having a panel at the bottom decorated with ormolu, the larger central door having a figurative ormolu mount with stars in each corner and angels with trumpets at the top of the door in each corner, the doors either side also having stars in each corner but with a garland in the centre, the columns either side of the doors decorated with sphinx heads, the rest of the bookcase having various decorative ormolu including circular patraes, the bookcase supported on ormolu paw feet. Lovely quality and in excellent condition. Circa 1890.
