An antique Victorian sterling silver and glass claret jug which has a tall etched glass body depicting flowers, leaves and butterflies and a plain silver mount with a hinged lid and simple finial. The silver thumb piece is particularly unusual as it has a hinged fitting which can alter the position, if so desired. It also has a nicely shaped plain handle which is comfortable to hold. This silver and glass claret jug would be practical to use and would make a useful addition to a collection. It would hold a litre of wine.

Height: 27.3 cms (10.7")

Width (from spout to back of handle): 14.5 cms (5.7")

It was hallmarked in Sheffield for 1882 by James Dixon & Sons Ltd. and remains in excellent condition.
